Shellann is my twelth painted lady in the collection. She has been created in paint on beautiful coloured Colourfix paper in soft creamy pink pastel. This painting was an experiment exploring morphing imagery with a vanity App for social media. She is part of my 'She Shells' collection, painted October/November 2019.
My new sumer collection inspired by my recent exploration of palette of millenial pinks, peaches, lavenders and blues. Walks on the beach with sandy bare feet, cold peach tea, and even colder rose at Sunset.
This collection explores the fragility of nature, its beauty and its form. Shells in my work also represent the fragility of woman, both her physical body, and often her self-worth, and self-image. Particularly in a time where social media vanity is on the increase, often curated creation of the ‘perfect’, albeit a façade. Shells are a symbol associated with the goddess of beauty and fertility “Venus” who is often symbolised in art history as either a naked female, or a shell.
