Shellita is my third painted lady in the collection. She has been created in paint on beautiful coloured Colourfix paper in soft dusty denim blue pastel. She is part of my 'She Shell' collection, painted October/November 2019.
My new sumer collection inspired by my recent exploration of palette of millenial pinks, peaches, lavenders and blues. Walks on the beach with sandy bare feet, cold peach tea, and even colder rose at Sunset.
This collection explores the fragility of nature, its beauty and its form. Shells in my work also represent the fragility of woman, both her physical body, and often her self-worth, and self-image. Particularly in a time where social media vanity is on the increase, often curated creation of the ‘perfect’, albeit a façade. Shells are a symbol associated with the goddess of beauty and fertility “Venus” who is often symbolised in art history as either a naked female, or a shell.
