You light my path, always // Original Mixed Media 42cm x 29cm
There is a welsh word that I am particularly drawn to at the moment. "Cynefin", apparently it means a place where a person or an animal feels as if it belongs. It is where nature around you feels welcoming.
I feel this is the perfect sentiment for my latest artwork collection. The work is inspired by my feelings about the natural environments that I love. the spaces that call to the soul. A safe, comfortable, blissful place. I have taken the inspiration for some of my favourite elements and objects from these places, and looked closely at the details. Observing their patinas, remembering the sensation of the place, the smells, the sounds, and memories I have associated with those places.
Rather than creating a landscape or a 'copy' documenting it like photography, I have reduced this place to a to an essence, and a rhythm of that place.
I have used brushes made by natural elements found in these environments such as twigs and leaves, and incorporated natural pigments in the painting. These works are emotionally charge from my own experiences in nature, but I hope that you too will connect with them, and activate your own narrative. Paintings to inspire your mind to wander, to the dusty red earth of Uluru, to the inside of a peaceful cave, to the center of a geode, or perhaps just a walk in a dream.....
My wish is that they bring you a sense of calm, a sense of grounding and a sense of peace.
